Established on 1st April 1974, Foto Shangri-La opened its first retail outlet at Equatorial Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Foto Shangri-La has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a small retailer in photographic equipment with a staff force of only 5 employees. Today, Foto Shangri-La is a retail chain comprising 1 ground floor shop and 4 retail outlets in major shopping complexes in Klang Valley : Plaza Low Yat, Mid Valley Megamall, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, and IKANO Power Centre.

In March 2007, Foto Shangri-La expanded by opening its first Sony Centre at Mid Valley Megamall. This was followed by the successful openings of 3 more Sony Centres in The Mines, Plaza Low Yat, and Bangsar Shopping Centre respectively.

In mid July 2010, Foto Shangri-La has added GAME SHOP to its forte. Located at Upper Ground Floor of Plaza Low Yat, GAME SHOP offers games such Playstation 3, PSP, Xbox 360 Arcade and Nintendo Wii. Other products available at GAME SHOP are LCD TVs, home theatres, digital cameras and photography accessories.
